Disappearing Birds – The Making of a Documentary

I am going to tell you about an audio documentary.

I must tell you before you read on, I’m not going to give anything away. If you want to know more, you’ll have to listen to it!

This audio documentary is not just about birds. I suppose you could say it’s about people with a passion. People with a passion for house martins.

I spoke to people up and down the country, from Sussex to Scotland to find out what it is that people really love about these birds. I was moved by every single one. I captured a series of personal stories from people who are in some way involved in House Martin Conservation UK and Ireland.

Every tale is unique, whether they explore childhood memories of discovering house martins, the extraordinary lengths people go to to help them, or simply describe what it is that makes them so loved.

I must admit, I didn’t really know much about house martins before making this documentary. I knew that they lived on my mother’s house every summer. I knew that they flew away for winter. Now, I can honestly say I think I know more about them than anyone else in the world… even you Andy!

I’m joking, of course. But speaking to these wonderful people and creating this documentary, has certainly made me fall in love with these fascinating birds.

In this documentary, the passion of House Martin Conservation UK and Ireland speaks for itself. Every facet of the house martin is explored with excited breath. The microphone captures their astonishing lives.

This documentary will, I hope, play its part in this charity’s purpose, by raising awareness and helping others to fall in love with the house martin too.
